Basketball Ireland Development League Quarter Final Playoff

Claregalway v Garvey’s Tralee Warriors

Garvey’s Tralee Warriors BIDL Womens team will make the trip to the West to take on Claregalway on Sunday afternoon in the quarter final of the competition. The Warriors had already qualified for the quarter final before their final game of the group schedule away to Fr. Mathews two weeks ago.

The Tralee side secured their spot in the quarter finals with their three wins in Group 1 away to both St. Paul’s Killarney and Brunell and at home to Ballincollig to earn them a fourth place finish in their division. They will now face the winners of Group 2 Claregalway who came through their home and away fixtures unbeaten with a perfect 7 wins from 7 played.

The Galway outfit accounted for Drogheda Wolves, Boyne Warriors, Athlone, Malahide, Meteors, Dublin Raiders and Moycullen on their run to the quarter finals and their squad features key players in Galway Camogie star Ailish O’Reilly, Cara Cormican and Tralee native Laura Hoffmann, formerly of Tralee Magic.

It will be a tough test for the Warriors given they will be without the services of Niamh Ni Chonchuir, Muireann Teahan and Orla O’Mahony but the Tralee side have shown both resilience and strength in depth in this campaign, following on from their appearance in the BIDL Plate Final last season when going down to Glanmire in the decider.
